Restaurant Report: Sisters Thai
Nestled under The Gables in North Old Town, imagine a display of creativity, both in decor and flavor. At Sisters Thai, you’ll find beautiful blues, rich woods, creative murals, and three hundred and sixty degrees of Instagram-able desserts, drinks, and dishes.
Sisters Thai will soon become your go-to spot for decadent desserts, dreamy lattes, delicious and inspired Thai dishes, and of course, an amazing atmosphere. Before I tell you about our meal, I need to set the scene. Upon entering, you’re greeted by the cozy and cool design of the restaurant – including the dining room, bar, and attached sweets shop. Artfully arranged fresh flowers on the tables, golden flatware, and bone china teacups transport you into a blend of a European bistro, an Asian café, and a private living room. Walking to our table, we spotted a rainbow of dishes. The menu? Adorable and immense. To further transport you into the cafe experience, the menu is designed to look like a newspaper called The Sisters Daily. With restaurant news, location information, descriptive menu items, and mouthwatering dessert photos. The Sisters Daily newspaper menu is a talking point and conversation starter as you enjoy their wide selection of cafe and bar drinks.
We enjoyed the “Original Curry Puff” and “Fried Chive Dumplings” for appetizers. For our main dish, we shared the “Phuket Island” seafood combo, “Panang Salmon” in a delicious red curry sauce, the “Crispy Duck Kaprow,” and “Chicken Festival” meat skewers. Delicious!
What makes the Alexandria location of Sisters Thai special is the collaboration with Magnolia Dessert Bar & Coffee. If the Thai menu doesn’t draw you in, the dessert will! Magnolia Cafe is located inside the main dining room, and it’s the perfect spot for coffee, crepes, lattes, and creative desserts. We loved the “Toffee Cake & Ice Cream,” “Lychee Raspberry Shortcake,” and “Pocky Mini Toast.”
This holiday season you can look forward to Sisters Thai Alexandria’s special holiday cocktail, “The Chocolate Negroni!” This seasonal special is made with Gin, Vermouth, Campari, Creme de Cacao, and Chocolate Bitter. Let us know what you think!
Sisters Thai Alexandria is open for in-person diners, takeout, and delivery. On their website, you can see the delivery map of Old Town as well as the full menu. This is the third and newest location of the Sisters Thai & Magnolia family – follow them on Instagram @sistersalexandria.
