How can this holiday season be the most rewarding and fun? How can you get those two things without compromising your waistline and health?

We all think the holiday season brings extra pounds, right? Not only do we go to more parties, our work places are filled with treats and our inner Betty Crocker comes out. And we all know that feeling: I ate or drank too much and feel terrible (physically or guilt-ridden) the following day.

Scale

The good news is the average American gains just one pound during the holiday season. The bad news is when we gain a pound and keep it on then add another the following year. This is not only bad for your wardrobe, but concerning for your overall health and wellness. Your vital organs will need to work harder to maintain your health. The harder they work, the more inclined your body is to feel fatigue, illness occurs more often and your motivation to MOVE will be diminished because MOVING is a lot harder with additional weight.

MAKE A PLAN and SET GOALS.

By planning, we commit to ourselves to think through our choices.

Beyond simply thinking about our upcoming season, we can actually continue the journey toward wellness with another bold step. Yes, without compromising your waistline, your energy and your well being.

Call it “Suzy’s health plan” or whatever you want. I strongly urge you to name it.

Most of you have your own training method. It can be running, spin, yoga, weight training, and many others. Most of you try as best you can to maintain a healthy diet. When you have a training plan, you rarely deviate from your program because it will sideline your goals. You are consistent in your training, your nutrition and your rest. If you are exercising or “working out” without specific goals attached to a plan or metrics, you are more likely to give yourself permission to stray.

This holiday season can prove to be the best “training plan” for all of the above. So here it goes.

Not only plan it. Journal. Hold yourself accountable. Research has proven time and time again, people with a plan reach goals. Period. They are more likely to stick to a healthy program and reach their goals.

By logging it, you are more likely to be mindful of your food choices, you’ll stick to consistent workouts and get your rest.

Make this a less guilt-ridden and more fulfilling holiday season. You deserve it.

Adrien founded Fitness on the Run in 2004 out of her home after a successful career in policy and public affairs communications. After spending 15 years developing her own personal definition of wellness and watching thousands struggle with theirs, in January 2019 Adrien founded Alexandria Wellness, the home for the Concierge Wellness Program and Corporate Wellness with Adrien Cotton. Over the course of 15 years, “FOR” was home to more than 2,000 clients, 30 instructors, and hundreds of inspirational success stories. Adrien is now, more-than-ever, passionate about helping women view their fitness as a journey, not a quick fix. Adrien’s recipe for success herself has evolved from a rigid training plan of sweaty and heart pumping workouts to some days getting in her 10,000 steps, consciously breathing, her 7.5 hours of sleep, and her beloved 5-Minute Flow. Adrien believes the most important ingredient is making small changes for big results, even if it’s one new habit formed each month. Still passionate about fitness, Adrien’s clients appreciate her ability to make sessions seriously challenging without a “beat down,” a healthy mix of strength and metabolic (cardio) work and ultimately helping her clients gain real strength in mind and body. She believes we all benefit from being curious about our bodies and that change, or improvement, is within reach despite what your “inner voice” or others may tell you. Adrien is bubbling with excitement to help women learn the importance of a comprehensive approach to wellness, weight loss, and contentedness with yourself, and that every person has the right to feel good about themselves. Most days, you can find her helping clients with their wellness, listening to success stories, and bragging about her twin 13-year-old children and “fittest man in Alexandria” Bill Cotton. Adrien prides herself on her practice of mindfulness, meditation, and putting it all into perspective.

Alexandria Wellness offers achievable answers for anyone who is tired of chasing fitness and health without a clear plan, someone who has struggled and is not satisfied with their fitness and wellness or someone who is open to maximized healthful longevity and fitness along with healthful weight loss.
