Postcards from Cape May

My husband and I are fortunate enough to have made dear, lifelong friends while living in Italy way back in 1979, when Vin was serving as a doctor in the Air Force. We met our friends, Theresa and George, in Italian 101, and never looked back.

Fast forward to the 21st century….we remain close and often meet at their second home in beautiful Cape May, off the Jersey shore.  Over the years, we have spent annual long weekends during the summer months, unwinding in a laid back yet sophisticated coastal community.

This year, life conspired against us and we couldn’t go during the summer.  But we defied the weather and went in November, connecting this past weekend, where we were kissed by fall’s waning beauties.  Our visit was filled with blue-bird skies and fiery sunsets.  What a treat that was!

cape-may-beach Cape May is an extraordinarily beautiful Victorian community, a jewel with a gorgeous beach along the Atlantic.

cape-may-white-shopIt has many fabulous restaurants for both lunch and dinner, hotels, quaint bed and breakfasts, a professional performing arts theater, wonderful shops, like this one I loved (wonder why?!) called White…

We were fortunate to experience it all in our too-short, three-day visit. But the stars of the show were our hosts and their 5-star hospitality.

Theresa cooks like no other, and her husband excels as our personal barista, all the while entertaining us with his special humor and engaging stories.  We love them more each time we get together, and are already looking forward to our next gathering.
