Oscars 2020: Our Best Dressed
It was glamour glamour glamour on the Oscars red carpet last night – just as it should be. There was, as always, a sense of refinement to the looks of the evening and everyone pulled out their best dresses for the event. Trends we’re seeing? There were loads of statement necklaces which will likely translate to on-the-street looks (perhaps without the real diamonds). We also saw the ultimate comeback of the platform heel with nearly everyone (except Billie Eilish) sporting these stiletto stunners. Who was your favorite of the evening? Here are a few of ours.

Charlize Theron
Just like Elizabeth always loves Nicole Kidman and I always love Charlize Theron. While her look was a little staid, I still loved it. The hair, the jewelry, and the sculptural nature of the Dior dress were outstanding.
Mindy Kaling
Mindy Kaling was a vision in yellow. One of the few people who chose color, she looked amazing in this Dolce & Gabbana dress.
Regina King
Regina King was my favorite last awards season and she was another favorite last night. That woman can wear a gown like nobody’s business.

I also liked Margaret Qualley. She looked lovely in Chanel. The fit was perfect and it felt fresh.

I love her entire look. The color is stunning for her and her hair is perfect for the look. The bow on the dress makes a statement without being ostentatious.

I’m not normally a fan of obvious labels but she makes it work. She can definitely pull off this look. Additionally, she makes the baggy clothes style work too. She has her very own style that works for her and I truly respect that.

The loose waves of her shoulder length bob and natural make-up were a perfect contrast to the intricate gold thread work on her dress.

This was my favorite look of the night. It was glamorous and sexy. Her eye shadow matched her hair color and let her sheer red lipstick be the one moment of color against a floor length black dress. It was stunning.
Scarlett Johannson
This was an Oscar worthy dress. It definitely said, “I came to win”. Her hair was perfection, the dress was perfection and her make-up was perfection. The silver eyeliner at the inner corner of her eyes were reminiscent of the strands on the top of her dress. I gasped when I saw her.
Gal Gadot
The delicate black lacework against the full pink skirt was breathtaking. I love that she pulled her hair back and wore a red lip rather than trying to match the dress with a pink lip.

But I was resurrected this year with her form-fitting meets glamorous Hollywood-all-the-way asymmetrical princess gown. I don’t even know what color this gown is (Alicia, can you help us out?), but we should name that fabric shade “Regina Makes Me Blush.”

2020 Jewelry Trends
Natalie Portman got me riled up about our own signatures – who we are and why we all want so much to make a mark.
Jewelry is all about you! We all want to be unique and to claim our stance and to be open and honest with our beliefs and feelings. The jewelry trends today follow an expression of life in 2020.
In addition to these trends, in 2020 we’re seeing: juxtaposing color, ultra-large link chains, a bohemian take on antique and vintage jewelry, hoops in every incarnation, modernized pearls, sea and sand inspired jewels and sculptural/tribal updates.
Neo-Parisian
Classic Parisian jewelry dominated the runways, with layers of gold chains, cameo rings and pearls, whether small and subtle or worn overstated. This season, there was a sense of daring in the air, which inspired bold reinventions of the Parisian staples. At Dior, the pearl necklace was embellished with rhinestones, at Givenchy, pearls were worn asymmetrically, and the anklet resurfaced in chic, fine gold.
All Choked Up
Chokers are back for Spring 2020. I’m not talking about the fine delicate stackable chokers of a few seasons ago which continue to be worn as layering staples. These are statement chokers – hard powerful silhouettes that curve around the neck in gold. They also translate into choker length necklaces that are strong in shape but flexible with multiple dangles accenting the entire piece. It’s a look which says “go bold or go home.”
The One
After seasons of seeing many studs and other styles, we are moving back to finding the one. These are available in sculptural, geometric, dangling, and hoop silhouettes. But don’t let that stop your ear party. You can also keep it going on the other lobe.
Going Long
If you prefer a languid sexy long necklace that dips and drapes, there are the lariat, bolo, and elongated Y-necklaces that will provide you with the look you want. Many of these can also do double duty and get wrapped around the wrist multiple times.
