Makeup Ready for Your Zoom Meetings

Ever feel like you look completely washed out when you see yourself on your video call? You’ll probably find that you need to add a smidge more makeup than you’re used to so you don’t fade into the wood work. Here are some simple tips to keep you looking your best on camera.

Prep Your Skin

Skin prep is absolutely essential for ensuring your skin looks its best on camera. Make sure to use a really great moisturizer or oil to create a dewy look to the skin. Really hydrated skin will look bright, fresh, and glowy which is what we all want.

I use the Melanie Simon Serum C. This vitamin C serum gives an instant glow. Stabilized 15 percent Vitamin C and highlighting properties make this glorious serum a magnificent primer as well.

Define Your Brow

Go a little darker on your brows to give them a polished look. Natural colored brows can fade on video. To give your eye area definition and stand out, go a shade darker on your brows than you normally would. Make sure to groom them into place with a clear gel. Polished brows will set the stage for the rest of your look.

Go Big on Mascara

Your eyes should pop. Eyeshadow won’t really read on video, but people will be looking at your eyes. Long, full lashes will make sure your eyes stand out. Be sure to layer on the mascara or even consider some false lashes.

Brighten up the Blush

I like blush and am not afraid of some color on my cheeks, but even I am struck by how washed out I look on videos. I put my blush on as normal and then go back and add about 30 percent more. I would never walk down the street that way, but I absolutely have to look a little clownish or I’ll have no life to my cheeks at all.

Rock a Bold Lip

If you’re normally a nude or pale pink lipstick gal, now is the time to try something new. A bold lip comes through onscreen and really pulls your whole look together. It also finishes your look and makes you appear more polished. Brighter colors and reds translate very well. Whenever I wear red lipstick, someone always comments on how good I look.

  • The latest from Angela
I have been a beauty junkie for what seems like forever, but before I did anything about it, I went to law school. (Yes, my life is a little like the reverse of Legally Blonde.) Then, I worked as a prosecutor in Sonoma County after which I moved to the DC area with my husband in ’97. I served as Majority Counsel to the Senate Banking Committee followed by a year-long stint at a lobbying firm. You get the picture. It was then that I decided to act on my dream of becoming an entrepreneur. Finding my favorite beauty products proved to be impossible without stepping foot in a mall–the horror. So, I decided to bring my favorites to Alexandria. A few trips to New York and a flight to France and Bellacara was born in March 2000.

Located in historic Old Town Alexandria, for more than 17 years Bellacara has been Northern Virginia's preeminent boutique for high end cosmetic, skincare and haircare products. At Bellacara you will find premiere beauty products that have been carefully edited by the store’s owner, Angela Sitilides, who personally tests all the products sold in store. The boutique carries only the best product lines – Kiehl’s, Jouer, Dr. Dennis Gross, Christophe Robin, Moroccan Oil, Bumble & Bumble, Fresh, Molton Brown, Skinceuticals, Smashbox, Stila, Mario Badescu, Clarins, Dermalogica, Kevyn Aucoin, Kai, Child, St. Tropez, Smith and Cult, and many more.
