For the Love of Gray T-Shirts
My closet at home is organized into sections. First by type — tops, dresses, blazers, etc. Then by color –light to dark. For the most part there is balance amongst the types and the colors; I have a little bit of everything.

There is, however, one glaringly dominant section of my closet. The space devoted to gray t-shirts is larger than any other single type/color combination. In my defense, each gray t-shirt is a little different. One is high-low. One has ruffles along the bottom. Another has ruffles on the sleeves. Yet another is a little distressed with an exaggerated neckline. The list goes on.

I would worry about my ever-growing selection of gray t-shirts, except I really believe in the value of a great gray t-shirt as it pertains to its wardrobe contribution. Gray is not only the most on-trend neutral, it is also the most easily paired of the neutrals and it flatters all skin-tones. Why? Gray is a softer neutral and doesn’t create harsh contrasts like black or white.

Furthermore, fashion is growing ever more casual. Even in the workplace. This means a (good) t-shirt can be worn under a blazer with slim pants and pumps for the office; paired with a long vest, distressed skinny denim and booties for brunch; or on its own with a white A-line gauzy skirt and simple sandals for running errands. I reach for my gray t-shirts more than anything else in my closet to solve any and all types of wardrobe quandaries. When I don’t know what to wear, I wear a gray t-shirt.
