Light in Dark Times

In these difficult and unsettling times, it can become easy to focus on the negative. No one enjoys being cooped up inside for days, not being able to see family or friends. However, through all the downsides of our current situation come beautiful, positive moments that we want to stop and appreciate. Furthermore, we want to show our appreciation for the people who have stepped up in our time of need.

In the past few weeks, we have seen our community come together more than ever before. People are eating out to support local businesses, social distancing to keep both loved ones and strangers safe, and finding creative ways to help one another through this difficult time. Local neighborhoods have put on “spirit weeks” for the children. Fitness studios are offering a variety of online classes. Artists are creating and donating as many masks as they can make. Newborns are meeting their families through windows for the first time. The list goes on.

Each and every small moment or gesture is creating a large positive impact on the world. The people creating the biggest impact are the nurses and doctors risking their own health and safety to put an end to this pandemic. We thank you. We also thank the first-responders, law enforcement officers, and everyone else who is out directly fighting this for us. We see the light you are bringing to these dark times.

If you are at home wondering what you can do to add to the positive impact, Spring2ACTion is accepting early giving donations. The official day to give is Wednesday, April 15, 2020. You can choose to give to your favorite local nonprofits. You can also participate in one of The Patterson Group’s initiatives to give back on the 15th. More details will be provided on our social media pages. Together, let’s spread as much light and positivity as we can in these times.

Britt – thank you so much for your support for Spring2Action. Support for Alexandria’s non-profits is more critical than ever this year in the face of the COVID-19 crisis.
