Shop Hand Dyed Yarns At fibre space This Weekend!

Covid has changed a few things about how all of us operate, but one of our largest annual events actually improved during the pandemic. Every year for a decade, Miss Babs has brought a huge amount of yarn to our shop in thousands of her gorgeous colors. We typically cleared much of our own inventory out to make room for this pop-up shop. The entire second floor of our building was taken over with the event, and the tops of all of our first floor shelving would be covered in yarn. Now due to Covid, we have moved this event outside! The outdoor tent setup actually allows four times the amount of space for the yarn to be displayed and provides everyone with more room to browse and make selections. We will also have on display a whole host of her newest designs in the yarns to inspire your purchasing. With all of the yarn festivals canceled over the last year, this is truly one of the few opportunities to shop Miss Babs yarn in person in a safe outdoor space.

So, who is Miss Babs?

She is an actual person! Babs got her nickname from her husband, a Southerner, who called her “Miss Babs.” So, when she formed her own hand-dyed yarn company in 2005, it made sense to use the nickname for her company. Babs and the Miss Babs Team dye beautiful yarns in their studio in the mountains of eastern Tennessee. Miss Babs offers a wide variety of yarn bases, from lace to chunky, in a stunning range of colorways. Between our semi-solids, repeatable variegated colors (Babettes), and one-of-a-kind colors (Wild Irises), there are endless opportunities to find something new to create with.

  • The latest from Danielle
Danielle, owner of the fibre space shop, has been knitting since the age of six or so, when she completed her first project – a Cabbage Patch doll scarf. A Pittsburgh native with a degree in international development, she moved to the D.C. area to find a job and quickly established a career in non profit management and fundraising. For extra cash, she decided to turn her hobby into a job and taught knitting classes in the evening at area shops. With a heavy dose of sarcasm and a tough love style of teaching, Danielle quickly developed a following of students – busy D.C. professionals looking for a creative outlet. In October 2006, she struck out on her own with Knit-a-Gogo, Inc. – offering knitting classes and events all over the D.C. metro area. Before she knew it, Knit-a-Gogo had grown out of control and Danielle moved to the next natural step – a full service yarn shop. In July 2009 fibre space was born and has been rockin’ ever since. When she isn’t behind the scenes with a mocha in hand, Danielle is hanging with her daughter or lobbying for small business needs at City Hall.
