Get Ready to Spring2ACTion!
This Wednesday is no ordinary, run-of-the-mill Hump Day! Why not? Because Spring2ACTion begins at 12am! ACT for Alexandria is hosting the annual 24-hour virtual event in order to raise money for more than 150 local nonprofits including those serving the arts, education, human services, animal rescue, and more. Last year, the event generated $1,276,909. This year, the goal is to engage 10,000 individual donors to raise $1,500,000.
Not only is it a day to celebrate the generosity and charitable spirit that defines Alexandria year-round, it is also a day full of fun activities and local events. The weather is beautiful (hope I didn’t just jinx it), the flowers are blooming, and it is time to share our warmth and joy with others by donating to the causes that touch our hearts the most.
It doesn’t hurt that you can get some free treats out of it and possibly win prizes, too! Special rewards include a free donut at Sugar Shack when you show your donation receipt or “I Gave” sticker (the trendiest accessory come Wednesday!); complimentary goodies when you donate to At Home in Alexandria at Del Ray Café; and a free bike cleaning and lubing at VéloCity Bicycle Cooperative between 6:30-8:30pm!
There are also a ton of celebratory events taking place throughout Alexandria all day long. Stop by Del Ray Artisans Gallery on Mount Vernon Avenue for wine tasting, meditation, a photo booth, and more; participate in an 18-hour Yoga-thon at Ease Studio and Café; play with kittens from King Street Cats at The Dog Park and Starbucks at 523 King Street between 10am and 7pm; eat lunch at Bittersweet Café between 11:30-1:30pm to benefit Rebuilding Together Alexandria; buy an entrée at Holy Cow Burger, Pork Barrel BBQ, or Sweet Fire Donna’s and 25 cents will be donated to a nonprofit of your choice; enjoy crafts and craft beers at Port City Brewing Company between 4-7pm; stop by The Shoe Hive between 6-9pm to help the Center for Alexandria’s Children; and so much more!
