so fresh and so clean, clean

Paula: I love the Coco Blanca concept of using white in design, but how do you get stains out of a white sofa or rug? How do you keep it all clean?

Susie, Coco Blanca: As you can imagine, Coco is asked that question all the time. So never avoid purchasing a beautiful piece of furniture that you love because of its color. Fortunately, there are ways to protect, clean, and keep your furnishings for years to come. The first thing we suggest whenever you purchase any piece of upholstered furniture is to have a protection product applied. A company we recommend is Guardian Protection Products. They do a wonderful job and offer an excellent warranty.

Keep your fabric, upholstered furniture at least two feet from a radiator, fireplace or heat source. Prolonged exposure to direct heat sources can damage the fibers in the fabric upholstery. Also avoid placing fabric furniture in direct sunlight, since it can cause premature fading due to UV light. If your furniture must be in sunlight, consider having a UV film guard applied to your windows.

When dealing with a lightly colored sisal rug, sprinkling a tiny bit of baby powder on a stain or spill will help to absorb the liquid and camouflage the stain. Just take a toothbrush and massage in the baby powder lightly.

Always have a bottle of club soda on hand for spills. Pour it directly on the spill and rub gently with a clean white cloth. This will eliminate or minimize any staining,

Perennials has developed many indoor/outdoor fabrics that are made to resist dirt and stains that are just as beautiful as most cotton and linen fabrics. “Perennials developed a technical finish called Perennials Nanoseal. More than just a coating, Perennials Nanoseal is molecularly bonded with the fibers, providing lost-lasting protection even after repeated washings. Water or substances such as oil, wine, and ketchup simply run off the surface or can be easily rinsed off with plain water.”

Finally, having your furniture cleaned by a professional cleaning company on a regular basis will do wonders for keeping it fresh and beautiful.

This is all excellent advice! I have always used Guardian protection on my upholstery; it is well worth the professional application. And sunlight fades everything – hardwood floors, upholstery, wood furniture; be especially careful of artwork that might be hung near windows (it should never be hung in direct sunlight).
