#fitforlife: personal training at fitness on the run

After successfully completing the 30 day plank challenge, I was inspired to take exercise more seriously. As you may remember from my previous article, I have not been incorporating workouts in my life and that needs to change. I had the opportunity to have a personal training session with Denise Dick at Fitness on the Run. Was I ever impressed!

As I was walking down Lee St. in Old town looking for the address and feeling a bit nervous, I was greeted by a the familiar, friendly face of Jennifer who helps with the scheduling (and is a customer of ours at Kiskadee). Instantly, my nerves were calmed. She walked me inside a wonderful facility and sat with me until my session started. I explained to her that I was a high school and college athlete, so exercise is not foreign to me but I have really let myself go over the years and quite frankly, I feel embarrassed AND scared to learn how truly out of shape I really am!

Denise must have overheard our conversation. She immediately put me at ease. Denise is incredibly knowledgeable, professional and caring. In the one hour we had together, I learned so many things about my body and where I am today as (an almost) 50 year old woman. She showed me simple techniques to incorporate in my daily life that will make a huge difference in my well being, such as:
How to properly sit when I’m driving;
How to stand when I’m with customers keeping my core strong;
How to “hinge” when I bend;
How to properly breathe!

I could go on and on about my time with Denise and working out at Fitness on the Run! I am excited to explore their many class options and get started on getting strong and healthy! As Denise explained, “it’s not really about your weight; it’s about feeling strong and confident!”
