Falling for Fall: Trends To Try This Season
This is the strongest season for fashion and style in a while. Over the past few weeks, I have been wowed by how much I want for my clients AND myself. Some of my favorite designers – new and established – have really stepped up their game, giving us gorgeous print, color and texture in fun, playful, and totally wearable silhouettes. I can’t wait for temperatures to drop!
What I love about this season in particular is there is something for everyone. From insane statement chokers to classic pinstripe suiting to the major ‘80s power shoulder to the always-stylish nautical navy overcoats, you can find something that suits your personal style.
There is quite a bit of carryover from past seasons like the cold shoulder and fringe trends, plus some tried-and-true fall staples like suede, leather, and velvet. I feel like I can still wear much of what I already own and look for truly special pieces that will give new flavor to my tried-and-true pieces.
When I emailed my pal, travel, lifestyle and fashion blogger Tanvi Rastogi to model some of my favorite looks this season, I knew it was going to be hard choosing which ones to highlight!

Lace-up
I chose this trend to highlight because I didn’t initially like it when I saw it on runways for Fall 2014. When I began to see it on retail floors. I had the same reaction I had when those tall fold-over large-cuff boots were everywhere: Do I really want to look like a pirate?
Fast-forward a season or two and I love it. This season’s interpretation of the trend – particularly as a statement in this fun 60’s-inspired bell-sleeve shift — speaks to me. It feels youthful, but also with an air of sophistication, putting to rest any notions of Blackbeard.

Fall Floral
Fall floral is a thing again. Last season, designers put a moody, Victorian spin on floral prints. The blooms were dark and often in brocade patterns. This season our blooms are bubbly! Take this positively joyful Veronica Beard blouse and its small, happy Liberty of London-esque flowers. I am excited to add a sweet, feminine touch to my own go-to menswear-inspired looks.

Velvet
Velvet is one of those textures that always looks and feels quintessentially fall. It’s amazingly soft and cozy, and who doesn’t want that when the chill hits the air? This season the velvet trend is even stronger than last year. Versatility is key, and I want to show clients that velvet today can be dressed down.
Take this lovely Kiskadee blouse. Buttoned up with cigarette pants and heels, I think “office holiday party.” But it could be so much more. Why not as a jacket? Paired with embroidered ‘90’s-inspired boyfriend jeans and killer heels, you have a hip boho look with a ‘90s twist.

Oh boy the ‘90s. They say if you lived through the trend the first time, don’t do it again the second time. I can’t even count how many times I have broken THAT rule.
I love chokers, and I definitely wore them as a high school and college kid in the ‘90s. This time around, though, it’s not the leather choker with the charm dangling. It’s a gold hammered collar – decidedly more grown up, but still trendy.
This three-strand choker is a simple and versatile take on the choker trend. I knew when I saw it, it would be a great compliment to any look we put together.
