fade to black

With the cooler weather this past week, I couldn’t help but start to think about wearing my dark denim and cords. Quality denim, like any other garment, requires careful care to retain color and shape.

Many dark and colored denims are dyed, meaning they start out with a standard blue and are put through a very detailed process to create the wash and color that you see in the end product. Red Engine Jeans (carried at Zoe Boutique) has even held up an order of colored denim if they weren’t satisfied with the quality of the wash. If they put this much care into their denim, you should too! It isn’t difficult and you will be delighted with the results!

First, turn the jeans inside out and launder them in cold water with other dark, non-fuzzy items. Regular or gentle detergent is fine. You can also throw one half cup of white vinegar into the rinse cycle to help keep the color fresh. I prefer to dry the jeans for about 15 – 20 minutes on a Damp Dry setting, pull them out and hang them up (still inside out) to finish drying. Never dry your jeans outdoors, as the sunlight can fade them. Also, as soon as they are dry, place them back in a dark closet or drawer away from all light.

Look at the difference in black jeans if washed improperly (on the left) or properly (on the right)!
