a facial in a jar

Those of you who know me, know that I have a lot of skin care products.  Over the years I have come to rely on a few key items though. Skinceuticals serums and Rilastil make-up remover will never leave my bathroom drawer.  However, every week I receive at least three boxes of product from companies who would like to sell their product at Bellacara.

This has the effect of jading me a bit to new products.  Most of the time I take a quick look and think, “I’ll try that out later.”  I mean, I only have one face.  As a rule, I will not sell anything that I haven’t personally tried.  In theory, that’s great, but my face pays the price.  Often I give the items to one of my employees or a good friend and ask them to try them.  If they give it a glowing review, only then will I try it.

As a result, I have a lot of product in a big basket in my office.  The other day, I was home at night with a glass of wine and thought, “I could really use a good mask”.  So I went rifling through the basket and found a big box from a company called M. Steves. Eureka! Reviving Exfoliator which is also a mask. Okay. Why not? A facial in a jar. An exfoliating mask for all skin types. Includes RHSO (Rose Hip Seed Oil), Microdermabrasion crystals, Walnut shell powder, Glycolic acid, Fruit enzymes and Dead sea mud. I’ll give it a try.

Something unusual happened, I LOVED it! I didn’t just like it or think it was okay. I LOVED it! It starts as a physical exfoliator, but is also a glycolic peel, and a clay mask. My skin looked absolutely radiant afterward. At $48, less than the price of a single facial, I have an amazing product I can use over and over.

So many times, customers come in and ask me, “What’s new that you can’t live without?”  I know what my answer is today.

  • The latest from Angela
I have been a beauty junkie for what seems like forever, but before I did anything about it, I went to law school. (Yes, my life is a little like the reverse of Legally Blonde.) Then, I worked as a prosecutor in Sonoma County after which I moved to the DC area with my husband in ’97. I served as Majority Counsel to the Senate Banking Committee followed by a year-long stint at a lobbying firm. You get the picture. It was then that I decided to act on my dream of becoming an entrepreneur. Finding my favorite beauty products proved to be impossible without stepping foot in a mall–the horror. So, I decided to bring my favorites to Alexandria. A few trips to New York and a flight to France and Bellacara was born in March 2000.

Located in historic Old Town Alexandria, for more than 17 years Bellacara has been Northern Virginia's preeminent boutique for high end cosmetic, skincare and haircare products. At Bellacara you will find premiere beauty products that have been carefully edited by the store’s owner, Angela Sitilides, who personally tests all the products sold in store. The boutique carries only the best product lines – Kiehl’s, Jouer, Dr. Dennis Gross, Christophe Robin, Moroccan Oil, Bumble & Bumble, Fresh, Molton Brown, Skinceuticals, Smashbox, Stila, Mario Badescu, Clarins, Dermalogica, Kevyn Aucoin, Kai, Child, St. Tropez, Smith and Cult, and many more.
