Dos and Don’ts of Waxing

leg wax dos and donts

Waxing is one of those things that no one is indifferent to: people either love it or they hate it. Or, the more complex, they love the results but hate the procedure. We’re here to help; here are the dos and don’ts of getting a wax:

DO let the hair grow. You can’t wax something that isn’t there. Let the hair grow to 1/4 of an inch for best results.

DO book your appointments 4 to 6 weeks apart. The hair grows in multiple cycles so in order to get the cleanest results, we need to weaken each stage by removing new growth as it comes through. With consistent appointments, each cycle will stay in its most malleable stage. If you wait longer than 3 to 6 months, the hair grows bulbous again and can be more painful to remove.

DO take an aspirin or ibuprofen about thirty minutes before your appointment. It helps to reduce the pain of waxing so your own experience can be more pleasant!

DON’T get sweaty immediately after an appointment. Put off your workout until the next day and don’t get in that hot tub. The salt in your perspiration could be irritating to the area, and friction could cause an uncomfortable effect on an already tender area. It will more than likely result in prolonged redness, sensitivity, and cystic breakouts.

DON’T shave between appointments. The goal of consistent hair removal is to remove the root of the hair so it grows back new, making it softer. Shaving will allow the root to grow strong, making waxing more painful. (And ain’t nobody got time for that!)

DO give waxing a try! I’ll admit to being a bit biased, but it really is life changing. There’s no need to pack that razor for your vacation!
