Designer Profile: Ronen Chen
We’ve added a new designer to Coco’s Closet — Ronen Chen — and we adore his minimalist and sophisticated label. One of the most widely distributed and internationally known Israeli fashion designers, Chen’s thoughtful approaches to the body and fashion are inspired by his love for architecture.
As a designer, Chen finds beauty in everything he encounters. “In buildings and bridges, in markets and sidewalks. That culminates in a design style best described as minimal, graphic, timeless, often monochromatic, fashionable but not trendy and, last but not least, sexy but understated.”
Chen often works in soft crepes and matte jerseys, and he prefers to let himself be driven by the fabric, draping a mannequin rather than sketching a garment design on paper. As a result, his creations adapt beautifully to any shape, respecting curves.
Adds Chen: “Design is visual and instinctual but it’s also tactile. So my hands are my everything. To touch a piece of fabric is to know and love it. In order to design for women, you must understand them and the materials you are working with.”
