class and style found at fitness on the run

Fitness on the Run sure raised the level of style by training Alexandria Stylebook’s very own founders! Darby, Susie, Alicia and Angela exude class and style. And oh yes, we had lots of fun while we “worked.” These stylish ladies were pleasantly surprised at all they could accomplish in a 50-minute session.

While one or two of our special guests may have taken a break from training for several years, others include it in their daily life. Fitness on the Run is home for both: new exercisers or those who are well conditioned.

For First Time Clients
For those of you just starting out after a break or just starting out, we offer a personalized program for you. We begin our introduction to any new client with a thorough review of the health history checklist complete before walking in our doors. Check it out at www.fitnessontherun.net then click New Client Registration to complete the Health History.

We offer any new client (3) sessions for $100 total. The first session is simple: we discuss in confidence any issues we found on the health history. Then we check mobility and joint issues to ensure the movements we engage are not only effective yet safe. Then we do a more in depth movement assessment (Functional Movement Screen) to make sure your joints are working correctly and without pain. Pain is your body’s way of saying “STOP: that’s too much.” We then work the core muscles and teach clients the 7-minute workout. The time flies.

We start the second session, if you feel comfortable, with a short and private body composition assessment including bodyweight, circumference measurements of hips and waist, and take your blood pressure. We then progressively move through a range of our basic exercises. We need to know your fitness level to develop a thoughtful program and to provide metrics. It’s always good to know a few months later where you’ve made progress, not only on the scale but also in your movements. (i.e. a full push up versus an elevated one on the wall)

For those more advanced new clients, we will start to teach new movements and new ways to complete them. Fitness on the Run considers safety first and then effectiveness as key components of our training philosophy. In order to achieve results, we want our clients to know how to complete movements correctly and efficiently, thereby remaining injury free and achieving greater results in less time.

By the time we reach the third session, we have determined an individualized program that will meet our client’s needs and lifestyle. Our goal is to help you to move better, not only in the gym, but outside. Stand taller, use the right muscles at the right time during the day to promote consistent movement patterns.

  • The latest from Adrien
Adrien founded Fitness on the Run in 2004 out of her home after a successful career in policy and public affairs communications. After spending 15 years developing her own personal definition of wellness and watching thousands struggle with theirs, in January 2019 Adrien founded Alexandria Wellness, the home for the Concierge Wellness Program and Corporate Wellness with Adrien Cotton. Over the course of 15 years, “FOR” was home to more than 2,000 clients, 30 instructors, and hundreds of inspirational success stories. Adrien is now, more-than-ever, passionate about helping women view their fitness as a journey, not a quick fix. Adrien’s recipe for success herself has evolved from a rigid training plan of sweaty and heart pumping workouts to some days getting in her 10,000 steps, consciously breathing, her 7.5 hours of sleep, and her beloved 5-Minute Flow. Adrien believes the most important ingredient is making small changes for big results, even if it’s one new habit formed each month. Still passionate about fitness, Adrien’s clients appreciate her ability to make sessions seriously challenging without a “beat down,” a healthy mix of strength and metabolic (cardio) work and ultimately helping her clients gain real strength in mind and body. She believes we all benefit from being curious about our bodies and that change, or improvement, is within reach despite what your “inner voice” or others may tell you. Adrien is bubbling with excitement to help women learn the importance of a comprehensive approach to wellness, weight loss, and contentedness with yourself, and that every person has the right to feel good about themselves. Most days, you can find her helping clients with their wellness, listening to success stories, and bragging about her twin 13-year-old children and “fittest man in Alexandria” Bill Cotton. Adrien prides herself on her practice of mindfulness, meditation, and putting it all into perspective.
