A Chill in the Air: 3 Winter Coat Essentials
Feel that? A little frost in the morning. A little cold nip on your nose when you leave the house. Seeing your breath on the way to the car. Winter is coming, and it’s time to start cozying up with heavier outwear. Here are my picks for your winter coat essentials list.
The Three-Quarter Length Coat
The first cold-weather coat essential is the three-quarter length. This coat can hit mid-thigh or at your knee. It is usually in a wool or cashmere fabric. This is the season’s most versatile coat. We usually put this style of coat in our clients’ closets first because it is dressy enough for work, but also can be paired with jeans on the weekend.
To mix things up, try the style in a neutral print this season that doesn’t clash or compete with what is already in your closet, but still makes a style statement.

Puffy Coat
Come December the temps get downright arctic in the D.C. area, and don’t even get me started on January through March. A puffer coat is a cold-weather essential to get you through these frigid months. A great way to give this very practical, utilitarian style coat a stylish spin is by layering it with a different pattern or texture.
What about all those long vests and sleeveless jackets that have been dominating style magazines and retail floors the last few seasons? Get them out and layer under your puffy jacket. Exhibit A: this tattersall plaid vest adds textural, stylish flair to this ultra-lightweight puffy jacket. Added bonus? The sleeves on the puffer come off!

Dressy Statement Coat
Everyone also needs a coat for dressier evenings out. This can be a longer coat, but it doesn’t have to be. It can be a three-quarter length coat that has texture and lux details like a fur collar (removable!).
