break the rules

Rules are meant to be broken. This summer, throw the rulebook out the window. Leather, suede, and scarves are all fair game! The pressing question is, of course, how do you wear winter-like materials in the summertime? Easy peasy: Keep it light! This can mean light in color, light in feel, or both. Tan, beige, taupe, light grey—all great options. That’s not to say stay away from dark colors entirely, either. As a former New Yorker, I will wear black all year-round, it’s just about finding the right weight of fabric. This Jackett mixed media leather vest is super lightweight and comfortable–adding edge to any look.

Scarves are the perfect addition to any outfit—not only are they pretty, they provide the warmth you need as the chilly evenings in June come around, without having to commit to a jacket. They also can fit nicely in your purse! (Scarves of all different price-points and styles available at Kiskadee!)

It’s all about looking seasonally-appropriate—go with your gut when it comes to picking your outfit —if it feels too hot or too dark, it probably is. Black suede closed-toe pumps are great in the colder months, but wouldn’t exactly pair nicely with the breezy Drew dress you’ve been dreaming about wearing all winter. If you keep the look seasonally-appropriate, the fabric will follow suit.
