Reader: Can you explain the difference between BB, CC and DD creams?
Angela: BB Creams are a German invention made popular in Korea and Japan. BB cream is an all-in-one facial product that replaces serum, moisturizer, primer, foundation and sunblock. They’re lighter than foundation but heavier than tinted moisturizers. They are generally considered blemish balms in that they help to control oil and are therefore best suited to normal to oily skin types.
CC Creams include sun protection like BB creams, along with skincare properties such as anti-aging and hydration. The main distinction is that it’s primary purpose is color correction and treatment of uneven skin tones. Some users find it to have a lighter texture than a BB cream, which allows for smoother application.
DD Creams are supposed to be the hybrid of BB and CC creams. In other words, the Daily Defense or Dynamic Do-All. All the benefits of BB and CC in one product. Get ready though, it seems we are poised for an onslaught of these creams. It doesn’t seem that the ZZ Cream is too far off.
