Valerie: You all have the best bar carts, and I love the idea of keeping one fully stocked. But what is appropriate to stock? What should I always have on hand?
Coco Blanca: To answer this question, I turn to our longtime friend and caterer Charlene of Charlene’s Kitchen. She is the expert when it comes to good food and drink and knows how to make the best cocktail “with a twist.” I can’t say it any better than she, so here are some of her best tips for a well stocked bar.
Here is a list of items Charlene recommends for a successful bar designed for 50 people:
Spirits
Bourbon
two fifths of Maker’s Mark, Knob Creek or Basil Haden
Gin
two fifths of Hendricks, Taqueray, Blue Sapphire or Plymouth
Scotch
two fifths of single malt Macallan (whichever grade you prefer)
Vodka
two fifths of Grey Goose, Absolut or Kettle One
For a more extensive bar, Charlene recommends these additions as well:
Rum
two fifths of Pyrat
Tequilla
two fifths of El Jimador Reposado or Cabo Wabo Reposado
Mixers
Mixers are an essential component of every bar set-up. Include one case of tine glass bottles:
Coke, Diet Coke, Ginger Ale, Tonic, Club Soda & Cranberry Juice
Water
An assortment of waters are also a necessary bar item. Be sure to include:
One case of Pellegrino in tiny glass bottles & three cases of tiny water bottles
Beer
Three cases of your favorite beers. Don’t forget the wonderful IPA’s!
Wine
Three cases of red & two cases of white
Extras
No drink is complete without the perfect garnish
One bag of lemons, one bag of limes, toothpicks, maraschino cherries, cocktail onions & olives
