ask stylebook: investing in a coat

Kat: I want to invest in a coat this winter. What should I look for? What will carry me through several winters, trend-wise?

Cathy, Style Speaks: A quality coat is a great investment. For a style that will last several years, start with your favorite neutral rather than a trend color. My pick would be camel, which is always in and goes with everything, but you could also go with a black, gray or navy, depending on the colors of your winter wardrobe. Next, focus your search on wool, which is a classic, versatile and warm fabric. And, most importantly, choose a coat that works well with your body shape, rather than something in the latest trend shape. For example, a tailored, belted coat is flattering on most figures. The perfect coat can be tough to find and the inventory usually goes quickly so start your search now. And, if the search is feeling overwhelming for you: call in an expert! I’m here to make these kinds of things easy for you, saving you time and money and helping you build a wardrobe you love.
