Alexandria Ranked #20 in America’s 50 Best Cities to Live!
If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you live in the 20th best city in the United States!* 24/7 Wall Street recently ranked Alexandria #20 on its list of America’s 50 Best Cities to Live based on its great job opportunities, growing population, relatively high median household income ($65,211/year after cost of living adjustments), and numerous attractions.
As we’ve seen with the influx of buyers in the area, Alexandria experienced a growth rate of 8.9 percent over the five years through 2015. That is more than double the national growth rate of 3.9 percent! Other related factors in 24/7 Wall Street’s ranking system include Alexandria’s proximity to a major city, making possible a commute into D.C., and easy access to the District’s many amenities, as well as the relative safety of the neighborhoods that make up this area.
By now, it’s probably pretty obvious that we think Alexandria is amazing, so we surveyed some friends and clients about their favorite things about living in this area. Here are their responses:
“Growing up in Annapolis, I always wanted to live and raise kids somewhere that felt like home. Alexandria was the perfect fit—small town, waterfront, red brick homes, local shops, great restaurants…exactly what I was looking for! I couldn’t imagine calling anywhere else ‘home’ now.”
“My favorite thing about living in Alexandria has always been the Old Town community. We spent the first four years in Alexandria living right in Old Town and could walk to everything. When we were debating where to move next, the thing we kept coming back to was having Old Town as the anchor to wherever we lived. I love having one quaint area to head to for restaurants, bars, and shops. And I particularly love all the small businesses. The Old Town Boutique District community is an amazing group of small businesses supporting each other, and all of the shops and shop owners do a great job of giving our town that small-town feel. The longer I live here, the more gems I discover, especially in the creative space (sewing, knitting, interiors, etc.)!”
“The Scottish Christmas Walk, which is organized by The Campagna Center and its Junior Friends, is a hallmark on the Alexandria calendar, and my favorite community event. When I hear the bagpipes playing, the children laughing and grabbing for candy, I am consumed with the holiday spirit. I always feel so proud to be an Alexandrian when I am at the Scottish Christmas Walk!” [Editor’s note: Stay tuned for more on this event!]
