Alexandria Development Update

Big changes are coming to the area in the years ahead! Some of these projects aren’t scheduled to break ground in 2017, but we’re sure to see and hear about many exciting plans as developers work to reshape, repurpose, and improve areas throughout extraordinary Alexandria.

With the new Yellow- and Blue-line Metro station finally approved for Potomac Yard, several development projects that have been in the planning phases for quite some time will finally take off. We’ll soon (relatively speaking) see new office space in the form of StonebridgeCarras’s Oakville Triangle, and we’ll see mass transportation shift from its current car-heavy nature to more pedestrian-, bike-, and Metro commuter-friendly. Upcoming residential and retail development is intended to better serve this shift. Expected delivery begins in 2019.

According to Bisnow, StonebridgeCarras will also be transforming Hoffman Town Center to include “grocery-anchored retail” and 750,000 square feet of residential development. In addition to a grocery store, expect a health club, restaurant, and a TBD number of new residential options—possibly a mixture of apartments, condos, and senior housing. Located next to a busy metro stop and near recent development in the Carlyle area, this is a junction with a lot of potential. StonebridgeCarras is hoping to start construction in 2019 and finish it in 2021, so there likely won’t be much visible progress in the year ahead, but changes are in the pipeline!
