*ad*dressing problem areas

by Darby, Kiskadee

We all know the answer to looking and feeling slimmer, don’t we? Eating healthy foods. Regular exercise. And hopefully we’re all working toward a stronger, healthier version of ourselves. But in the meantime, how do you ad*dress* that dreaded muffin top and keep it from ruining your favorite outfit?

First, take a good look at the undergarments you’ve selected. The undies should not cut you off, create bulges. A higher-rise panty–believe it or not–really helps the situation. Not a fan? Try a seamless panty. Commando is a brand available at Kiskadee that we all swear by. If the “granny panty” scares you, try the high-rise feather light Spanx or a Spanx top you can tuck into your jeans or wear under a dress.

Once the undergarment situation is addressed, pay special attention to how your clothes and fit and the sizes you are buying. All companies are different–fit is much more important than size. It is entirely possible that you are regularly a size 2 and end up wearing a size 8 in something. Frustrating, but possible. Let the clothes do the talking, not the tag.

Low-rise jeans are often the culprit of the unyielding bulge around our center. Truthfully, a higher rise is generally the better option for most body types. Our favorite brands of denim would never make a “mom jean” and brands like Paige and Kut both carry medium and higher rise denim. Try them all on next time you’re in the store and see if you notice a difference. (Regardless of the rise, you should all be wearing Invisibelts to prevent the button area from bringing any unwanted attention to your middle.)

One more piece of advice–look for structured clothing. Fabrics with a little more substance–like cashmere or ponte knit–fall better on the body, and won’t highlight problem area. A blazer or chic cardigan can also instantly conceal and cover problem areas while remaining polished.

Of course, we should all remain committed to healthier lifestyles, but for now, much of the work can be done in your closet. Which of these rules have you been following and which have you ignored?
