a fall fashion poem

Some people get weak in the knees seeing the new fall trends. But me–I literally wax poetic when I spot the cool, autumnal riffs that designers have come up with. I’m loving looks from menswear to fringe, and I can’t wait to help our DC Style Factory clients learn how to incorporate them into their wardrobes.

As a stylist, it’s always tough to tell clients to indulge in trends, because what I really specialize in is helping clients create classic-yet-up-to-date wardrobes.

But that’s where these seasonal changes come in handy. Tweed is back this fall (does it ever completely go away?), and it can bring a dose of Kate Middleton, ladylike glam to your closet; ditto oversized clutches, which take a traditional bag and just blow it up a little. Indulging in one–or all of these ideas–might make you happy enough to rhyme, too. If you’d like me to help you learn how to mix timeless pieces and a few new items, contact me at jenn@dcstylefactory.com for a free consultation.

Tweed
Scots in kilts and models in stilts
All know the cozy chic of tweed.
The nubby fabric never wilts,
Plus it’s got all the warmth you need.

A tweed dress boasts ladylike cred,
While jeans and a tweedy jacket,
Make you look preppy and well read.

Tweed’s rough texture needs smooth contrasts —
try it with patent booties or soft cashmere for a look that lasts.

Menswear Footwear
Learn from the guys — lace-up shoes are hot.
And so are brogues, tassels and whatnot.
Boy’s club footwear plays well with menswear,
But they also give skirts and dresses French-girl flair.

Grab a pair in a metallic, for an interesting twist —
And if you love pencil skirts, put heeled oxfords on your list.

Fringe
Can you wear fringe without owning a horse?
With this season’s new styles — of course.
Soft shoulder bags rock fringe on your arm,
A leather fringed jacket boasts Cali charm.

To keep the look from going too far West,
Trying fringe with simple pieces is best.
That means a black dress with a fringed clutch,
And that fringe-on-fringe anything is too much.

Clutches
I’m craving a bucket bag for the new season,
But also loving larger clutches beyond reason.
Snag one in a hot color — I love teal green,
Or do a snakeskin number that’ll go with anything.
