We love Martha Spak’s art because it adds that accent of color to our neutral décor, creating a serene environment. She paints landscapes, seascapes, and still life paintings in oils, capturing the essence of the subject and recording it simply with light and warmth. Each painting portrays a mood. As an artists, she hopes the share with others the sense of peace she feels when she paints to provide calm happiness. She began painting more than fifteen years ago and gathers ideas everywhere – a vivid sunset, tranquil water, a beautiful keepsake from traveling, or a family heirloom. She paints en plein air and in the studio. Martha prefers to paint in oils because the richness and thickness of the medium allow her to build up the texture of the painting and give weight to the work. She likes to use layers of thin color to reach a vibrant and translucent glaze.
