what to wear: date night at the kennedy center

Nothing screams romance like a night out at The Kennedy Center. Hear that, men? Going to the Kennedy Center is always a stunning and memorable experience. From the pristine architecture to the meticulously thought out performances, the entire experience is absolutely breathtaking. You also never know who or what you will see when you enter the long grandiose halls of the Kennedy Center. Even the Obamas have been known to have their date nights at this well known theater, so be prepared as you just never know who you may run into!

Once you have your plans in place and tickets in hand, the next matter of business is what you are going to wear. Dressing for a night at the Kennedy Center may sound intimidating but there is no need to fret. As far as we know, there is no dress code in place at The Kennedy Center but our best advice is to dress according to the show you will be seeing. If you are seeing something light and funny, feel free to be a little more casual. If you plan to see an opera or ballet, then you may want to dress up a little more than usual. Anything really goes at the Kennedy Center but we think an outing like this is a great excuse to get all dolled up.

A night at the Kennedy Center is about as romantic as DC gets, so take full advantage of your surroundings and wear that cocktail dress that has been sitting in your closet that you have been dying to wear, or if you don’t have anything to wear it’s the perfect excuse to buy a new dress! We suggest choosing something that would pass for cocktail attire but also that is comfortable enough to sit in throughout a long show. Anything really goes when it comes to shoes. Since you will be sitting most of the night you won’t have to worry about your feet hurting. Look sophisticated and put together with an easy yet tasteful up-do, like our model Mary Squire.
