A Valentine to Yourself: Embracing Your Faults

Let’s face it: we all have faults. In some ways, the last many months have presented us all with ample reminders of what our particular faults are. As a control freak prone to catastrophizing, I learned again and again that I will continue to be this way no matter how many times I convince myself I can act differently. And you know what? Maybe that’s okay.

I mean, okay – not great, but also maybe not something I’m going to beat myself up about. I know how I am and while I can do my best to accommodate my own tendencies, I also can’t deny my natural instincts. And, these natural instincts have served me well in many ways. While there certainly needs to be a balance, I think it’s undeniable that the parts of myself that spin circles are also the parts that plan, prepare, and create progress in my life.

Valentine’s Day is supposed to be about showing someone you love them truly and completely, and I propose that this year we take some time to share the same sentiment to ourselves. This is why I love Jennifer Dawes’ gorgeous Fault Line concept. Jennifer creates these rings to accentuate and display a gemstone’s inner faults by crafting hand-forged settings that bend and move with the irregular shapes. Her signature “seam” is a representation of the scars that make us stronger – those faults that keep our lives together, despite driving us crazy.

Each ring is completely one-of-a-kind and handcrafted in Jennifer’s northern California studio using ethically sourced materials – this is truly a ring you can feel good about.  Our four styles were hand-picked with the promise of spring in mind, featuring gorgeous watermelon tourmaline, emerald, aquamarine, and moonstone variations. Shop them online or make an appointment to see them in person and while you’re at it – show some appreciation for your own faults today. They really are what make you beautiful.

Creative Director & Co-Owner | Alexandria & Company
I came to join Alexandria & Company by way of love: my husband Tim has owned the stop for nearly ten years, and I started by helping him on Saturdays so that we could spend more time together. Eventually, I quit my other life in the legal field to become Alx&Co’s Creative Director and co-owner with Tim. Now, we run our small business together in Old Town and I haven’t looked back.

Alexandria & Company is an Old Town-based workshop and design studio specializing in creating and restoring fine jewelry and silver hollowware. They are the in-the-know jewelers of Alexandria and have been serving clients out of their small workshop for decades. Tucked in their historic building on South Royal Street, the team at Alx&Co. brings a personalized, modern approach to their craft – this is not your average stodgy jeweler or antique shop. Visit them during their walk-in hours or online to view their collection of handmade fine jewelry or to drop off a repair project; or, if you’re feeling creative, make an appointment to talk about that custom design project you’ve been imagining.
