the early show: holiday gifts to score now
Holiday decorations are up at the mall, and Christmas carols are already coursing through stores’ sound systems. The yuletide seems like it comes earlier every year. Me, I’m going to use all this November fa-la-la-ing as inspiration to shop for gifts before the rush of December.
When I shop for presents, whether for my friends and family or for clients, I think not, “What do they need?” but “How can I surprise and delight someone with something they didn’t even realize they wanted.”
I try to channel both their interests and think a little outside the gift box. Maybe your fashionista niece needs both a new necklace and subscription to lesser-known style magazine. For your highball-mixing neighbor, a set of coasters and a bottle of locally made gin (we like D.C.’s Green Hat) would be a major hit.
