street style: olivia sheldon
I have been Olivia’s yoga student at various levels of frequency for the better part of six years. Her own brand of yoga–Positive Energy Yoga–is creative, fun, and a crazy good workout. But even more than her method, I return time and time again because of Olivia. She is funny, caring and kind, and has a very unique approach to teaching and to life. Her energy and laugh are infectious and I find that particularly on grey, wintery days her optimism carries me through the week.
Olivia moved to Alexandria in 2000 and is now happy and proud to call it “home sweet home.” She started Positive Energy Yoga way back then, before yoga became trendy. Immediately, Alexandrians took to Olivia, started showing up and her business grew. Now, fifteen years later, Alexandria is her life. All of her best friends live here. She met her husband here, bought a home here and together they are now raising their baby boy here.
Olivia writes, “I love the people who make this town tick…a loving, warm, welcoming community that has generously supported me personally and professionally all these years. You can find me driving all over town, from private clients to The Club to corporate yoga gigs to All Star Karate Studio, where I teach a few public classes every week. I’m always grateful to do what I love in this beautiful, extra-special city.”
Fun fact: Olivia is a black belt in karate–a little yang to go with her yin!

Where is Olivia’s studio? I’m wondering if she is the same Olivia who taught at Old Town Health Club before Sport &Health bought it? She was inspirational! Pat M.
