Street Style: Megan Hosford

Megan Hosford is one of those people who brings a light into any room she enters. I met her years ago while working at Mint Condition, and our love for conversation had us hitting it off immediately. We didn’t have a friendship outside of the shop, but over time she came in and we were besties.

Fast forward a year, I left my retail position and started my own photography business. Megan calls me for a photo shoot (I had mentioned my love for photography in one of our many passings). The shoot: editorial for Visit Alexandria, specifically the Alexandria Wedding Showcase. Immediately I jumped on the opportunity; I knew anything Megan had her hand in was going to be amazing. And she did not disappoint.

For the shoot, she reserved and shut down Captains Row (the cobble stone portion of Prince Street) and had 6-foot letters spelling LOVE delivered. You can imagine, as a new photographer, I was completely blown away. I pretty much came to the conclusion that she owned this town.

Since then I’ve worked with her on several projects, the largest being the Alexandria Wedding Showcase, taking place February 18th at the Westin (yes, that was an obligatory committee plug). Since joining the showcase committee and being at Megan’s side, I’ve realized how incredibly strong, brilliant, and what an all around kick-ass person she is.

From her big future dreams she’s shared with me, to watching her raise her family (her daughter is absolutely adorable), she’s nothing short of a strong female role model.

I started photographing after rupturing my spleen while I was in high school. Yeah, it sounds made up, but I swear I’m telling the truth. was in marching band and happened to fall on my saxophone. This incident made it impossible for me to march for the remainder of the season. So, I did what any bored high school teenager does — started taking self portraits (at that time the word “selfie” was not invented). Turns out, I really enjoyed it! I started photographing everything and everyone. After graduation, I decided to head to Shepherd University for photography & digital imagery. My passion continued to grow as I started to photograph more conceptual themes, primarily the way women are viewed in modern media and the over editing that happens in the fashion industry. This is what has influenced and inspired my current work.
