You may not think you know Cathryn Speck, but if you follow our social media, then you already do. Cathryn has been an integral part of the Stylebook team over the past year working on all of our social media and helping out with our editorial posts as well. A constant optimist, her smile and happy attitude have helped to keep our spirits up – even during this trying year. Thank you Cathryn for all you have done!

How do you spend your time?
Cathryn: The wonderful thing about working in social media marketing is that it never feels like “work.” I get the opportunity to collaborate with incredible brands across the area. In my free time, coffee shops, perfecting new recipes, and long outdoor walks are at the top of my list.
How long have you lived in the area?
Cathryn: I’ve been a resident of Arlington nearly all of my life, but I currently live at The Wharf right across the bridge in D.C.
What is your hometown?
Cathryn: I was actually born in Alexandria and grew up in Arlington.
What would surprise people about you?
Cathryn: I spend hardly any time on my own social media. I’m constantly on my phone for work so I make a conscious effort to unplug.
You’re a superhero: what’s your superpower?
Cathryn: I can turn sugar into protein.
Favorite cocktail?
Cathryn: A smoky mezcal paloma.
Guilty Pleasure?
Cathryn: I hate to admit this, but I could waste hours on Tik Tok.
A phrase you overuse?
Cathryn: “Perfect” and “actually.”
Facebook or Instagram?
Cathryn: Instagram.
Latest binge-watch?
Cathryn: 90 Day Fiance on TLC. I’m invested.
Bucket list travel destination?
Cathryn: Jaipur, India. It’s known as “The Pink City” and it’s actually illegal to paint buildings any color other than pink!
If you only could have one for the rest of your life: wine or coffee?
Cathryn: Wine… with an expresso for dessert.

Cathryn: Cheerful, feminine, sophisticated.

Cathryn: My rag & bone Chelsea booties.

Cathryn: Elevated loungewear!!!

Cathryn: Headbands because they’re such an easy way to add some excitement to even the most casual look.
Beauty product you can’t live without?
Cathryn: The Amethyst Aphrodisiac Color Chameleon Eyeshadow by Charlotte Tilbury.
Favorite fragrance?
Cathryn: Jo Malone Peony & Blush Suede Cologne. My mom first introduced me to this dreamy scent, and I’ve been hooked for years.

Cathryn: Flats, flats, flats.

Favorite room in your home?
Cathryn: My rooftop. I can see the Washington Monument, the Wharf, and Rosslyn all in one place.
Antiques, modern, or a mix?
Cathryn: I prefer a mix of timeless and modern for a collected look.
The last item bought for your home?
Cathryn: A Jonathan Adler tray.
Next planned purchase?
Cathryn: I’m currently on the hunt for a vintage mirror.
Favorite way to entertain?
Cathryn: Friends over to the house for a signature cocktail, lavish cheese board, and a roaring fire.
Clutter-free or well-lived in?
Cathryn: My boyfriend may disagree with this, but I’d say clutter-free. Lol.
Wallpaper — yes, totally modern or no, so dated?
Cathryn: YES.
FITNESS
Your go-to work-out?
Cathryn: A few years ago, I searched for a workout that wasn’t too cardio-focused and incorporated flexibility and strength training. I stopped in Studio Barre Alexandria for a class and fell in love with barre.
Most fun way to exercise?
Cathryn: With a fun playlist and friends.
Group exercise or solo?
Cathryn: I personally enjoy both. It’s always a good time to break a sweat with friends, but when I work out solo, I push myself harder.
Proudest fitness achievement?
Cathryn: Training with the best barre studio in town and teaching the barre method to my clients.
