Alexandria Sidewalk Sale! (and It Starts *Today* at The Hive and The Shoe Hive)

If you’ve traveled to any suburb lately, you know that the ‘Town Center’ is the retail rage. They’re in Reston, Dulles, Bowie, Mosaic, and National Harbor, not to mention on the outskirts of every growing city in the nation. Developers lay out shopping centers that mimic a street grid, with sidewalks and maybe a central plaza with a fountain, trying to create the pedestrian-friendly small town, downtowns of an earlier era.

The good news for you, dear shopper, is that we still have the real thing for your retail pleasure right here in Alexandria. Both Del Ray and Old Town are authentic versions of what these developers are trying to build – truly walkable, wonderful downtowns.

The sidewalk shopping experience of our city is never on better display than the second weekend in August during the annual Alexandria Sidewalk Sale. The pace is exactly what you want – a stroll along blocks and blocks of great independent retailers with killer deals on merchandise racks rolled out onto the streets in front of our stores.

This event began several years ago as an initiative of the Old Town Boutique District and today it’s sponsored by Visit Alexandria, a recognition that shopping is a great reason to make our city your destination for weekend fun. It doesn’t just take place in Old Town; all the great shops in Del Ray are getting in on the sidewalk sale as well.

Old Town even has free metered parking on Saturday and Sunday.

At The Shoe Hive and The Hive, we love the sidewalk sale so much we are extending it by a day. We’ll celebrate with great deals outside our front doors this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. You can come shop us Friday, and then use your Saturday and Sunday to hit the other dozens of great Alexandria shops. Most stores will be opening at 9am on Saturday.

We will be marking some great finds from all seasons past down from 60 to 80 percent off retail price. These deals are almost warehouse-sale good!

So come out and shop and stroll and save!
