Poolside Makeup in 3 Easy Steps

In the summertime we all walk that fine line between wanting to look amazing and intentionally dewy and beautiful and not wanting to wear any makeup when we’re outside. What’s a gal to do about the days she feels like wearing makeup but still plans to head to the pool?

1. Prime, Prime, Prime!

Wear your primer if you want makeup to stay on, simple as that. But don’t be fooled into thinking primer has to be one-note! Coola makes two beautifully textured primers — one with a chemical screen, and one with a mineral block. Both are effective, both feel great going on, both are SPF 30. Could it get any easier?

2. Wear Foundation!

If you’re like most of our clients and favor a tinted moisturizer’s level of coverage for the summertime, use your beautyblender to diffuse a full coverage foundation for the soft, sheer effect of the tinted moisturizer with the long-wearing properties of something a little heavier. I’m currently having a moment with Smashbox Studio Skin Foundation, due to the super-smooth texture and blendability combined with their huge range of shades and hours upon hours of wear.

3. Wear Waterproof!

Other than not wearing any, the only way to guarantee your eyeliner and mascara don’t run if your sweetie or your kids splash you at the pool is to wear waterproof. We’re digging the Jouer Slim Creme Eyeliners for their soft smudginess that dries down to be super waterproof. Cap your liner with Smashbox Full Exposure Waterproof Mascara and you’re golden if you get tossed in the deep end. (Just remember to wear your floaties!)
