Meet Aida

How did you get your start as a stylist?

Interestingly enough, my grandmother on my mother’s side was in the industryin her day she was known as a beautician. I learned so much from my grandmother; she was an amazing woman and hair stylist and because of her, hair was always a big deal in my life. I was the one who did friends’ hair for prom and even when I got to college I charged next to nothing to do hair on campus.

After college, I realized something was missing, so I decided to attend the Aveda Institute in Washington D.C., where I spent a long year and 1,500 hours training and learning so much about hair and how to work in a professional salon setting.

How long have you been a part of the Bazzak team?

I have been at Bazzak for the past five years and every year gets better and better. The salon has a wonderful clientele, we’re in a great part of Old Town, and the whole staff makes everyday fun to come to work!

What hair care secret do you wish everyone knew?

The one hair care secret I wish that everyone knew is that the shampoo and conditioner you use really does make a huge difference to the health of your hair. I know sometimes it may seem like stylists are pushing products, but the products commonly available at the grocery store or Target are not the best for promoting hair health and growth. The best places to buy hair products are at your local salon or online directly from the manufacturer.

A second tip is to use a leave-in heat protectant spray or serum (depending on your hair type). This is a must to protect your hair from breakage.

What do you like about working in Old Town?

The people that I have met and grown to know well in the area are so amazing and kind. Old Town is gorgeous, has character, a distinct ambiance, and I like to work in such a pretty area. I joke with my clients that because I am a “Marylander” I would never move to Virginia, but truth be told I could totally live here.  Another plus is that there are so many great restaurants and shops.

What are your interests and hobbies outside of the salon?

Outside of the salon I love to write poetry, spend time with my family and best friends, and relax and enjoy a cocktail along with some good laughs.
