Meaningful Action!

I saw a quote on Instagram last week and I can’t stop thinking about it. “How will you put that resilience created last year into action?” As I’ve been attempting to organize for the new year and plan out the next 12 months for the store (and myself), I find this so inspiring. We are so much tougher than we were last January. The resilience and grit I saw from my family and friends and fellow small businesses in our amazing community are so encouraging to me. I’m so grateful for all of you who have supported/shopped/loved local so that we have another year to plan for! Your continued action of shopping small keeps our town alive when we see so many others struggling to stay open.

And planning for action we are! We learned last year how to slow down and enjoy a slower pace of life, focusing on doing things that are meaningful; and not being caught up in the constant cycle of overdoing and overcommitting. We are planning for fun events (in person when it’s safe), more collaborations, and better ways to help connect you with the right gift or perfect piece you are looking for – and having our adorable customers model for us more often!

With pink and red hearts on full display at the store right now, I couldn’t think of a more appropriate theme than love to kick off 2021. Maybe this year, we’ll skip the frenzied trip to Target for store-bought Valentine’s Day cards and take time to send handmade valentines or simply write a note to a friend we love? Small meaningful actions will make such a big impact. We are resilient but also very much in need of every reason to smile.

We love our latest arrivals, modeled by the cutest Monday’s Children, and hope you will too!

Born and raised in Alexandria and married to a native Alexandrian as well! We love living in Old Town – just a few blocks from the store – with our three little boys and golden retriever Rumpelstiltzkin. Although my first job and real love was retail (the Lilly Pad where Mint Condition is now), I worked in Public Affairs and PR prior to buying the shop, which has really been a dream come true for me. I feel so grateful to work with our customers to find the perfect outfit for their special childhood moments. When I’m not at the store you can probably find me at an Old Town park chasing the boys or on my yoga mat.

A classic children’s boutique in Old Town, Alexandria for 40 years, we carry special occasion and play clothes for sizes newborn to 12. Located in the historic Crilley Warehouse just two blocks from the water, Monday’s Child is your go-to shop for baby gifts, baptism gowns, holiday dresses and outfits, boy’s blazers and ties, First Communion, shoes, books, toys and much more.
