Mad About Plaid: How To Style a Plaid Blazer

Plaid is a big deal for Fall 2018, as various types made their way down the runway in every form. From coats to blouses, pants to skirts, every garment was saturated. They’re in every store window on your walk to work and they’re all over your Pinterest feed. Plaid blazers have solidified themselves as a favorite fall staple.

As a stylist, one of the most common concerns our clients have is versatility. More and more, the line between “business attire” and “weekend wear” is fading away — even in the D.C. area. If there’s one thing you can count on when it comes to transitioning your look from Saturday night to Monday morning, it’s a blazer. More specifically, a plaid one! While fall technically doesn’t start until September 22, why wait to get a head start on this trend? Here are three ways to wear this go-to piece.

Work

Keep it simple! A plaid blazer can be a bit of a statement piece, so keep the rest of your outfit simple and streamlined. Going the monochromatic route keeps the look polished and professional for a day at the office.

Casual Weekend

Elevate your casual t-shirt dress and sneakers with a plaid blazer. The shape is slightly oversized but still very flattering, making it perfect to take from your 9-to-5 to the weekend!

Dressy

I love mixing masculine and feminine styles together, especially when it comes to dressing up. Everything about plaid says masculine and heritage so the trick is to balance it with anything that isn’t. Because the blazer is a neutral shade of gray, you have the freedom to go all-out with color pops and feminine details, such as this lace dress and these silk mules.
