Limited Edition Laura Hooper Calligraphy Fine Art Collection

Some of you know my story of how I got into the calligraphy world and built Laura Hooper Calligraphy hand-addressing envelopes, teaching calligraphy, and personalizing holiday items, but for those who are just learning about Laura Hooper Calligraphy, I’ve been professionally offering calligraphy for weddings, along with stationery design and production, for close to twenty years and our studio is located in the heart of Old Town Alexandria. If you’re interested, you can read the full story here.

Even before all that, I dabbled in painting and art, and watercolors were my favorite medium. I love calligraphy, and it is a wonderful, beautiful, and very enjoyable art form, but years of practicing it for a living made it difficult to call it a “hobby” anymore. Not that this is a bad thing, but I do crave time to myself to express my creative side when I’m not working.

Earlier this year, I decided to branch out and dive into a new artistic hobby {aside from my garden, which I can only work in select months out of the year}. Like most endeavors I take on, I went all in and invested in an easel, a palette, and a huge box of brand new acrylic paints. I wanted to break out of my comfort zone and try something new that I’ve never done, something I could really just let go and paint, without having to make it look precise like the watercolors and other paintings I used to do when I was younger. I decided to try my hand at abstract art, and I’ve been so pleased with the results. If you follow us closely on Instagram you might’ve even seen a peek of my art above my own bed at home!

I’ve had such a fulfilling time with my brushes and palette knives, experimenting with different techniques and colors, and have come up with a small array of paintings that I’d love to share with you. I’ve hand-painted what I hope comes across as movement and feeling, and I would be so honored if any of these pieces found a place in your home or office.

For the first time ever, we’ve listed a limited collection of fine art pieces for purchase from our shop. We are also accepting custom commissions if you are looking for specific colors or sizing and have left the pieces that have already sold on the site with investment details for their size in the listing for your reference.

I hope you’ll take a peek and share with anyone you know interested in this type of art, as it is something I’ve greatly enjoyed immersing myself into for the past several months this year.

You can shop the limited edition Laura Hooper Calligraphy Fine Art Collection through our online shop here, and as with our other hand-painted/hand-lettered pieces, we offer free local Alexandria, Virginia pickup. I hope one of my fine art pieces can adorn your home.

Warmly,

Laura
