Ahh, the winter. What a wonderful season. Snow, hot cocoa, gingerbread, good food, and time spent with family and friends—what’s not to love?

Well, frankly, dressing during these months can be a pain. How can we stay warm, without compromising our style? Layers are often our go-to solution to this problem. And why shouldn’t they be? Layers are easy and practical. They can, however, add bulk to your frame, due to the amount of fabric needed to stay warm.

But what happens when we walk into our office, or into the holiday party, or into the theater, or Kennedy Center, and we de-layer our outer-layer? There is always the potential for the breeze or chill in the room that leaves us slightly uncomfortable. The solution to this is simple: opt for cozy materials that hold heat in and that feel great.

Holiday party
The holiday party season is just around the corner, so finding a dress with sleeves is a great option. This winter-white, body-con dress is perfect for any evening over the holidays, and the hint of silver sparkle gives it just the right amount of festivity!

At the office
This grey and black BCBG dress, with its structure and muted tones, is perfect for the workday. The lines on the front create a slender silhouette by creating the illusion of a smaller waistline. Professional and comfortable, without compromising style.

With friends
I’m sure every single one of us has, at some point, thought, “Man, I wish I could just stay in my pajamas all day.” Thankfully, this two-piece look has given us a way to feel like we are, in fact, wearing our pajamas all day, without actually doing it. The coat and leggings are fleece-lined, and quite possibly the most comfortable thing I have ever worn. (A great option for holiday mornings – totally appropriate to wear in front of any/all of our family and friends!)

Kennedy Center
This is probably my absolute favorite dress I’ve ever seen and worn. So chic and so comfortable, it really doesn’t get much better. The cape, aside from looking beautiful, also adds an extra layer of built-in warmth. Perfect for any nice evening out in DC.
