Highlights from High Point

The fall furniture show in High Point, N.C. is like New York City’s Fashion Week for design professionals. The city is taken over by designers from all over the country and beyond. It is the time and place to dive in and search for inspiration. We go knowing that we will see all the newest additions to any collection. We are able to touch and feel the products, see the finishes in person, and often meet the creative artists that developed these looks. It is a stupendous display that the entire city takes part in. During these few days all the showrooms cater to the interior design industry and offer forums and festivities for designers to mix and mingle and, most importantly, share ideas and trends from all over.

We found some new resources and vendors that are offering all kinds of things for any kind of home project. There were new styles of interesting and curious accessories, perfect embellishments for a well-appointed home.

We also noticed a fusion of vibrant color play in textiles and upholstered pieces, using clean-lined frames draped in wild and often large-scaled patterns for big personality.

Lighting felt especially big this go round. There were fixtures big and small that made all kinds of statements. Mood lighting at its best for sure!

The antique vendors are always a mixed bag of offerings, some with a finely tuned eye for real treasures that have a provenance worth sharing, others offering collectibles that fit a certain trend and provide a vintage feel but are not a huge investment.

This is a place that lets the creativity behind design really soar and appeal to a variety of tastes and aesthetics that help make the world around us a more beautiful place.
