Happy Birthday, Boxwood!

Happy second birthday to Boxwood. We opened our doors in April of 2019 and like to say that we made enough decent decisions to survive and not too many bad decisions to fail. All joking aside, at the time, we didn’t know exactly what Old Town needed in a new home and gifts shop. We just knew we wanted to infuse more life, color, and vibrancy into the community.

So, while our mission has stayed the same, our style has changed significantly. There are only a handful of lines that we still carry from our launch two years ago, such as:

• • Outdoor friendly blankets made from recycled water bottles
• • Italian-made vinyl floor mats and placemats
• • Annie Sloan® Chalk Paint® (of course!)

Then you all helped guide us over the last two years. Stylebook readers recommended some of our very best sellers like Vietri papersoft napkins that elevate any event and the evergreen faux bois stick candles. And the new lines keep on coming. We’re introducing the absolute best smelling Voluspa candles, really great self-care products just in time for Mother’s Day, and a new line of baby and kids’ decor from a fun Spanish artist.

To celebrate our birthday, we’re hosting a big (safe) party all weekend long – Saturday, April 10, and Sunday, April 11. There will be balloons, cookies, and a 22 percent discount off all items except chalk paint and wall art. Plus, our favorite florist, Melinda Hunter, will be offering gorgeous floral arrangements to brighten your weekend for only $20 – she’ll be under the tent on Saturday from 11am to 3pm. We hope to see you all there!

Over the past 15 years, I’ve covered the major branches of D.C. careers – political campaigns, Senate press office, advertising sales, and strategic communications. But after I had my two kids, I knew I wanted to do something that truly reflected my desire for creative, colorful design. Luckily, I stumbled into a shop on South Royal Street in early 2019 and met Joanna Szczerban. We opened Boxwood in April to offer Old Town a fresh take on home decor and gifts – and we haven’t looked back.
