six easy entertaining tips for fall

Throwing a party is often more complicated than we may think. Even with the smallest gatherings, plenty of planning is required to make sure a party runs smoothly. We have hosted plenty of book signing cocktail events at Coco Blanca, and have learned quite a bit as to what it takes to remain cool and collected. As we transition into fall, with the party season upon us, we thought you would appreciate these 6 tips to help throw your next fall party without the anticipated stress.

1. Make a checklist to guide you through the details: Some definite items to put on your list include choosing a party theme, choosing a menu, choosing a grocery list, choosing a guest list, choosing a playlist, choosing a centerpiece, choosing platters and serving pieces, and choosing bar supplies. With a checklist, you can see exactly what you need to do and check things off as you accomplish each task. Checking items off feels so productive!

2. Prep food in advance: Whether you are cooking or having your party catered, you should plan your menu way in advance. That way you know exactly what will be served and you can coordinate beverage pairings and serving pieces ahead of time. A crisp cold Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and an Oregon Pinot Noir are two great wine choices because they both easily pair well with most hors d’oeuvres like prosciutto wrapped asparagus or fig and goat cheese bruschetta.

3. Decor:

Adding an Autumn theme into your home decor or table-scape doesn’t necessarily mean red and orange. Break the traditional fall color theme for a gorgeous white palette by adding rich texture. White pumpkins are perfect, and so are fresh ivory ranunculus flowers mixed with silver brunia, and seeded eucalyptus or thistle. And instead of paper napkins, go for the rich texture of Turkish cotton for your tabletop linens.

4. Don’t play bartender:

Encourage a self-service style bar by filling a beautiful pitcher with a creative fall cocktail like this vanilla, pear and vodka drink from Two Tarts. And of course, there’s nothing easier than providing screw top bottles of wine so your guests can easily help themselves. But don’t skimp on the bar display. Choose a handsome ice bucket, tray and bar tools to add style and function to your party.

5. Look great but be comfortable:

Since you are hosting the party, you will want to look fabulous but make sure that you don’t compromise on the comfort. You will be on your feet most of the night, so make sure that your shoes will get you through it. Also pick a dress or outfit that is flattering but also forgiving enough to allow you to eat the food that you prepared. We love the two outfits pictured here because they both exude that perfect fall hue, look elegant without trying too hard, and are comfortable enough to wear from set up to clean up.

6. Mix and mingle:

Make sure that you are able to say hello to all of your guests. No doubt, you will get busy and caught up in conversation but make a point to mingle around the room instead of staying stationary. And there’s nothing that helps initiate a conversion easier than approaching your guests with a tray of nibbles. It’s all about the presentation, too, so be sure to think about the serving tray. Leather handles provide a rich fall warmth to any serving accessory.

With these tips, what are you waiting for? Get your Fall party on, and be sure to stop by Coco Blanca for all your tabletop accessories, serving platters, cocktail ware, vases and an outfit that will wow your guests!
