Get Your Kids (and You) Holiday Ready

The holidays this year will look as different as… well, the rest of the year has. There will be virtual parties, caroling, and shopping, along with limited family gatherings and travel. And our beloved holiday music will be piped through Alexa instead of live. With all of these changes, it doesn’t mean we have to sacrifice our holiday fashion! We are here to help you get holiday ready on a budget (but totally on-trend) and take you through the 12 days of Christmas and beyond.

Katie and I love to dress ourselves and our kids for the holidays in fun and unexpected colors and prints, so we look and feel fresh. We are big on making the items we purchase for this crazy crew last through the season.

Tartan and Buffalo plaids work well starting in the fall and can be worn straight into the holiday season. Pair the plaid with jeans or chinos for the little guys or a skirt for the little girls, and you’ve got the perfect plaid family look for the holiday card!

Velvet in colors other than red and green work great for a holiday look, especially when paired with the perfect accessories – and save it for early 2021 for a small social gathering. We love Crew Cuts at 529 for simple dresses like this one, and this velvet jumpsuit from Traffic People is a favorite at Mint Condition.

Sequins! This holiday trend is typically only worn a few times a season, so we definitely recommend buying it on consignment. By early November, Mint Condition will become your sequins headquarters. Stop in and grab a dress or top to add some sparkle to this COVID-holiday season.

Great basics that can be worn dressed up or down are perfect for mom and her kiddos.
For my boys, I love a 1/4 zip from Vineyard Vines or Crew Cuts. They can wear them with denim or chinos. Layer a tartan button-down underneath for that virtual party or t-shirt under for a small family gathering. Either way, they look holiday ready!

For mom, we are partial to the cropped (but not too cropped) sweater this season. We love to pair our Pistola and Line & Dot sweaters from Mint Collective with denim for a day out in Old Town or a skirt from Joy Joy for a fun family dinner. Add a plaid headband by D’Maran and dangle earrings by David Aubrey from Mint Collective and you’re instantly holiday ready.

We will undoubtedly be spending a lot more time at home this holiday season, so holiday pajamas are a must. At 529 Kids Consign we just adore all things Hanna Andersson pajamas. They will keep your kids cozy during festive times and beyond – because no one ever said wearing the Grinch in January was a bad thing! Start stalking @529kidsconsign now on Instagram to pick up a few pairs of Hanna holiday jams for your kiddos!

If all else fails, take off your plaid mask and drink some bubbly!

  • The latest from Megan
Megan’s career in retail/merchandising began in the mid nineties standing in front of a woodsy smelling Abercrombie and Fitch. Sporting an oversized plaid flannel and bootcut jeans she said hello to every customer that eagerly walked in to the popular retailer. Little did Megan know that, while creating a perfect “denim wall”and dressing in all of the latest fashion that the lifestyle brand offered she was building the foundation for her fun and exciting career! After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh, Megan managed multiple A&F stores before she moved on to an assistant buyer position in contemporary dresses at the local Arlington based retailer Hecht’s (now Macy’s). She gained an immeasurable amount of knowledge before moving onto a different facet of the business at Calvin Klein Jeans. Megan worked her way from retail coordinator to East-Coast regional manager helping to create the Calvin Klein aesthetic in department stores from Boston to Miami. After her first son Ethan was born, her position at CKJ was eliminated, due to the harsh economic conditions at the time. This is how 529 was born! Megan quickly began to see how fast Ethan was growing out of his clothing. She knew other moms had the same amount of adorable “gently-worn” clothing piling up. Combining her love of retail and her obsession with dressing Ethan gave her the idea to try and sell this clothing. 529 became a popular “pop-up” shop in the Alexandria area and once the following was big enough, a brick and mortar store in historic Old Town. 529 Kids Consign exemplifies who Megan is and what she has learned throughout her career. It’s a warm, well-organized, well- edited boutique that attracts moms from all over the DC metro area. On any given visit to the store you may be greeted by three boys dressed to the nines..they too have the passion.

We are an upscale children's and maternity consignment boutique specializing in the latest trends. Quality is important to us, which is why we are particular about our brands. Offering not only consignment items but also the freshest and most trendy must haves for hip moms and cool kids makes us the place to shop!
