Get Busy Living

Okay folks, it’s time to get busy living. We all had a tough year. Normally around this time, as we proclaim our resolutions, many gyms and fitness studios, Mind the Mat alike, launch “challenges” to create a sense of community and to motivate people to work out. I don’t know about you, but I’m kind of done with challenges. This year has been enough of a challenge. Plus, challenges breed competition, rivalry, and exclusion. After this year, aren’t we all done with that?

Hey, if you want to compete, let’s go play volleyball, let’s schedule a tennis match, or a game of Spades; I am all for friendly competition. But your health should not be a contest. Your health and happiness are a lifestyle. As a team, we are going to walk into 2021 with our eyes on a positive lifestyle that we can commit to for years to come.

In a tumultuous time, people have truly shown themselves. Some have been bright lights and have made heroic sacrifices. Some have shown an uglier side that continues to shock us. My question for you is…

In 2021, how do YOU want to show up?

Let’s formulate a plan. I am launching a reset to do just that. Instead of calling this reset a “challenge” or a “resolution,” we will call this an Activation:

Get it Done in 21

I’ve been thinking about this activation for quite some time but was recently inspired by this podcast interview on Hidden Brain: Minimizing Pain, Maximizing Joy. After listening to William Irvine, this take-home had the greatest impact for me: Bad things are going to happen in life; it’s how we handle them that matters. Any damage comes from our reaction to the event.

We will explore this concept together in our first session.

How much does this 2021 Activation cost? For Mind the Mat members, the price is: your full commitment. Isn’t that harder than dropping some bitcoin as a sign of your participation? Members, sign up here. New people, yes, you are invited! You can either join as a member (click here for details) or join for just the month of January, including the activation (click here for details).

My commitment to you:
Guidance on where to start within MtM’s awesome and massive schedule
Weekly facilitated connections and discussions, virtual of course
Physical Therapy advice and education in a group setting
Joy
Pain
Sunshine
Rain

We are excited to partner with Penny Post for journaling supplies and an add-on bullet journal workshop together after we’ve experienced the 2021 activation together!

2021 here we come… let’s lift each other up every step of the way.

Megan Brown, physical therapist, Pilates instructor, mother and co-founder of Mind the Mat Pilates & Yoga in Alexandria, VA, likes to goof around. Yet her commitment to her students and her skill set in the field is no joke. After graduating from University of Virginia with a degree in Sports Medicine, Megan went on to receive her Masters in Physical Therapy and eventually her Doctorate in the profession. Although Pilates was never part of the plan, the method changed the way she treated patients, positively re-directed her career path and enhanced her own active lifestyle. Customized Pilates instruction is her specialty–she designs classes based on clients needs: athletes, new moms, rehabilitation or just for fun (why be serious all the time?). Pilates + Yoga is the best of both worlds, hence the creation of Mind the Mat studios providing classes for all—in every walk of life.

Mind the Mat Pilates & Yoga was founded in 2008 by Megan Brown, Doctor of Physical Therapy and Polestar Certified Practitioner of Pilates for Rehabilitation and Sara VanderGoot, Nationally Certified Massage Therapist and Registered Yoga Teacher (e-RYT 200, RYT 500). In their private practices as physical therapist and massage therapist respectively Megan and Sara observed that many of their clients were coming in with similar needs: relief for neck and shoulder tension and low back pain as well as a desire for more flexibility in hips and legs, stability in joints, and core strength.

Together Megan and Sara carefully crafted a curriculum of Pilates and yoga classes to address needs for clients who are pregnant, postpartum, have injuries or limitations, who are new to Pilates and yoga, and for those who are advanced students and are looking for an extra challenge.
