cult classics: past and present

Last week, I traveled back home to Wisconsin for my sister’s baby shower and of course forgot my hairdryer. As I was digging through drawers and cupboards trying to locate one, I happened upon a small makeup back zipped up in the back corner of my childhood bathroom. Curious, I unzipped it and pulled out an old bottle of Clinique Happy, a Dr. Pepper Lip Smackers, a (very old) tube of mascara, glitter powder (why??) and a tube of Clinique Black Honey lipstick. You probably haven’t thought about some of those products in a while; I hadn’t either, but I can distinctly remember each of them and how grown-up and cool I felt when I wore them. The contents of that bag weren’t just anything; they were a rite of passage.

Not wanting to test 12+ year-old cosmetics, I began to apply my own, all the while thinking about how much my knowledge and love of all things makeup had grown (not to mention my makeup bag). I still get giddy when buying a new lipstick and feel completely glamorous when I spritz on my Creed Spring Flower in the morning.

Since I’ve been back, I’ve reminded myself that putting on makeup shouldn’t feel like a chore, it should feel like it did when I was 15. I have to say, it’s made a huge difference in my day.
So, what products made you feel like a teenage superstar and what are your current favorites?
