Street Style: Eva Alexander

Eva Alexander has been a member of Fitness on the Run since 2015. During this time, she has inspired others to get fit and stay fit, including her 75-year-old mother, Victoria. This mother-daughter duo enjoys working out together and Eva says that it has changed their relationship for the better; she only wishes that she would have worked out with her mom sooner!

Eva has trained both individually and in group settings with almost all of our trainers, and they all are unanimous in saying that she is a wonderful person and it is a joy to train her. Eva is always upbeat and helps to liven up the gym when the more daunting workouts are happening. And while everyone’s least favorite excises are burpees, she can get the whole class motivated to put in the work!

One of Eva’s favorite things to do is to sit and enjoy a good movie. It is important to her for there to be a balance. This is why one of the things she would like to do in the new year is to continue to stay active, and fit in more time to work out with her mom.

For Eva, Kettlebell training has a number of advantages, but by far the best are cardiovascular and strength training. She has built her strength by doing a range of Kettlebell movements, from the simple to the really advanced. Her favorite exercises are wall balls, ropes, and pushing the sled. She really enjoys doing anything that will spike her heart rate up…followed by a nice “water break” afterward.

Eva never shies away from an intense workout and confronts all of her training with a constant smile on her face. My nickname for her is “Superwoman,” not just for her quick wardrobe change, but for her amazing strength and tenacity. She is always a positive spirit in the gym with warm words to say to anyone she encounters. It’s always a pleasure to be in her presence.

We are thankful this holiday season for our fitness families, and especially for Eva in our lives at FOR.

Eva is styled in an outfit, accessories, and shoes from The Hive and The Shoe Hive.

ABOUT YOU

How do you spend your time? I work in financial services, developing new products for small businesses. And I spend my free time with my family and friends.
Neighborhood: Old Town
How long have you lived in Alexandria: I’ve owned my Old Town townhouse for five years, but I’ve lived in Alexandria on and off my whole life. I attended St. Agnes for high school, and was in the first graduating class of St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School in 1992.
What is your hometown? My family is originally from Tuscaloosa, Alabama (Roll Tide!), but I’ve lived the longest here in Alexandria.
What brought you to Alexandria? I’m an Air Force Brat, so we first came to Alexandria when my father was stationed at the Pentagon.
What would surprise people about you? After living in London for nearly 10 years, I’m a dual citizen of the United States and United Kingdom. This makes me both a Colonial and a Royalist.
You’re a superhero: what’s your superpower? Superhuman intelligence. I would solve all the mysteries of the universe! Actually, never mind, my superpower would be the ability to talk to my two Burmese cats.
Favorite cocktail: In the summer, I enjoy a Lucky Lemonade (lemonade, muddled blackberries, with Stoli Razberi). But on chilly days, Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate is my special treat.
Last book read or movie seen: I finally saw “Lady Bird” last weekend, and my book club just read Mudbound.
Guilty Pleasure: My lashes from Gosia at Sarah Akram Skincare
Phrase you overuse: Lovely!
Facebook or Instagram? Instagram! I have no interest in Facebook.
Latest binge-watch: “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” and it was delightful!
Bucket list travel destination: Japan. I attended Virginia Governor’s School for Japanese, and have always dreamed of visiting.
If you only could have one for the rest of your life: wine or coffee? Coke Zero. My palate isn’t sophisticated enough for wine or coffee.

FASHION

Define your style in three words or less: Feminine, casual, fun
The go-to piece in your wardrobe: My Maison Goyard monogrammed tote, ordered on holiday in Paris in 2015.
Favorite trend ever: Big earrings in the 1980s
Favorite current trend: Big earrings now
Beauty product you can’t live without: Obagi skincare system
Favorite fragrance: Eau de Marveilles by Hermès.
Heels or flats? Flats. More specifically, cute sneakers! I’m a sucker for metallics and florals and velvet.

HOME

Favorite room in your home: Dining room, with my heavy English Oak trestle table.
Antiques, modern, or a mix? Mix! My nephew describes my interior design aesthetic as “18th century hoarder,” but I don’t forget to layer on technology and automation.
Last item bought for your home: An Echo Show for the Kitchen, which now connects to my Sonos system.
Next planned purchase: My living room armchair is in dire need of reupholstery.
Favorite way to entertain: Tea parties
Clutter-free or well lived in? Well lived in, but I am super tidy.

Wallpaper — yes, totally modern or no, so dated: Yes! Très chic.

FITNESS

Your go-to workout: Fitness on the Run classes are the best! On Saturday mornings you’ll find me in Remi’s Strength & Conditioning class followed by Denise’s Stretch for Strength class.
Most fun way to exercise: A big shout out to the folks in my Fitness on the Run classes! I have the most fun with them.
Group exercise or solo: Both! I enjoy walking along the bike path while listening to my favorite podcast, Bitch Sesh. And I love group classes at Fitness on the Run, where I get my most challenging exercise.
Fitness goal: Exercise for life
Haven’t yet, but might be willing to try with coaching / encouragement: Boxing or rock climbing or aerial yoga or mud run or…actually, there’s a lot I would be willing to try with little encouragement necessary.
Proudest fitness achievement: Regaining my strength after shoulder surgery

ALEXANDRIA

Favorite spot in Alexandria: I’m currently addicted to the Chicken Souvlaki Salad at Vaso’s on King Street.
Last purchase in Alexandria: Marion Parke shoes from The Shoe Hive
Best coffee / happy hour / date night spot: Sugar Shack for donuts, Dolci Gelati for gelato, Firehook for iced shortbread cookies, Dairy Godmother for frozen custard, and I will venture a little further for Georgetown Cupcakes. You asked about desserts, right?
Favorite charity: Garden Club of Virginia and King Street Cats
Favorite annual Alexandria event: Halloween on Lee Street
