Transitioning from season to season can be a pain. Especially when Mother Nature is moody. One day it’s 77 degrees; the next it’s 45 and extremely windy. And while those bulky sweaters have been laid to rest until next winter and you want to debut your breezy sundresses, you are unsure if you can because of the temperamental temperatures. As a personal stylist, I often guide clients on how to dress for these changes. Here are a few ways on how to transition into spring.
Jacket, Blouse, and Jeans, The Hive. Shoes, The Shoe Hive.
Layering is a must for this time of year. But, you want to keep the layers lightweight because while it can be cold in the morning or evenings, it warms up in the afternoon. A lightweight bomber in a bright pastel or stark white works perfectly for spring. It’s perfect for styling warm or still-surprisingly-chilly temps and keeping in the spirit of the season. And if it starts to warm up, your outfit is still on trend with pastel pink denim and a lace top.
Spring is also a great time to start wearing your nude patent pumps. By keeping it closed toe, your feet still remain warm (and hide those not-painted toes), but the color makes them perfect for warmer weather.

When I hear “trench coat,” two words come to mind — classic and springtime. While the trench coat was originally developed as an alternative to heavy greatcoats worn by British and French soldiers during the First World War, today, the trench is considered a wardrobe staple. It is the perfect spring layer for any weather — cool temps, rain or shine. In classic camel, it goes with everything, and the mid-length cut is beyond elegant.
Booties for spring? Yes! There’s a misconception that sometimes makes the rounds this time of year, one that states booties are something you should only wear during the colder months of the year. Booties are great staples year-round — it’s just all in how you style them. A great tip for wearing booties in spring is make sure they’re breathable. Lightweight, perforated booties in a neutral shade are a perfect choice. Another way to ensure your bootie looks seasonally appropriate is to make it barely look like your wearing booties at all! So choose a pair that showcase your ankles.

Floral for spring? Groundbreaking. Florals don’t always have to be girly and bright — and they don’t exactly have to be worn exclusively in the spring and summer, either. For transitional spring weather, look for dark and moody florals (find them against a dark color palette or embroidered on luxe fabrics) that give the otherwise sweet print a dash of danger and drama.
A long sleeved floral dress will keep you warm on those cool nights and what’s great about this dress is that you can pair with tights and boots in winter. By pairing it with brogues adds some masculinity to an otherwise “sweet” ensemble, and the metallic basket-weave work perfectly for early spring.

Suggestion: A short piece on what thin low socks/footies to wear when you do bare legged pumps and booties. Love the look of the bare foot/ankle, but hate the feel of the uncovered foot in the bootie or pump. Have tried short work out socks in the booties but too thick. There must be some alternatives out there. Thanks!
