3 Reasons To Include Yoga in Your 2017 Fitness Plan

Here we are, already almost through the first month of 2017! Maybe you set a specific resolution for this year or maybe you have a general goal of improving your overall health. I’m personally not big on setting resolutions, but I do think it’s a good idea to continually set small, attainable goals to keep improving personal health and wellbeing. So, if you’re still looking for something specific to help you reach your health and fitness goals this year, might I suggest adding yoga into your routine? It might be just what you need!

If you’re new to yoga, the first thing you may associate with it is flexibility. And yes, if practiced regularly yoga will increase your flexibility, but it will also increase your strength. Most yoga postures are focused, isometric contractions that yield gains in mobility as well as strength. (Note: you do not NEED to already be flexible to do yoga. Being inflexible is WHY you may want to do yoga.)

You want this flexibility in your life because it will help keep your muscles and joints safe. When muscles get too tight, your body starts to recruit other muscles to help during exercises or even normal daily activities. If these newly-recruited muscles are undertrained, you’re setting up for a strain or even a tear.
